The new Research School of Chemistry building has been officially opened by Vice-Chancellor Professor Ian Young AO, and Australia’s Chief Scientist Professor Ian Chubb AC.

The building is in the heart of the new ANU Science Precinct, bringing together researchers and students from multiple disciplines and driving collaboration between different fields of science.

“This new facility enables our students and researchers to continue their important work tackling national and global challenges,” Professor Young said.

“Our hope is that the impressive design and facilities will help attract the brightest students and staff to the field of chemistry at ANU.”

Construction of the new building started in 2009, and culminated in a Public Architecture Award from the ACT Chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects.

Director of the Research School of Chemistry, Professor John Carver, said the new building was a great place to work.

“I think it is a visually stunning and impressive building,” he said.

“We have a great facility here. I think it It will serve the research and teaching needs of chemistry for decades to come.”
