The Australian National University (ANU) has partnered with business to offer a new scholarship for students from regional Australia to study Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths (STEM) and live on campus at Burgmann College.

The Northrop Grumman, ViaSat and Optus Country Scholarship for Burgmann College will provide students with $10,500 a year for three years to assist with accommodation expenses at Burgmann College.

A Memorandum of Understanding between Northrop Grumman, ViaSat, Optus, and ANU and Burgmann College was signed at ANU on Wednesday 25 November.   

ANU Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Marnie Hughes-Warrington said the University was delighted to have the Northrop Grumman, ViaSat and Optus, Country Scholarship for Burgmann College.

"This scholarship will help enrich and diversify the ANU community and will have a huge impact on a student's life, enabling them to reach their full potential," Professor Hughes-Warrington said.

Burgmann College Principal Dr Philip Dutton said partnerships with companies such as Northrop Grumman, ViaSat and Optus are an important way to ensure students from all backgrounds can have access to the highest quality education and facilities.

Two scholarships will be awarded each year for five years from the start of 2017.

In the first year of the scholarship, preference will be given to students from Wagga Wagga and the Riverina area.
