Food is what keeps us alive right? So it’s very important stuff. While there’s plenty of information out there (which may or may not be true) about eating healthily, I’m finding the challenge for me is more about eating timely.

Up until now my meals have nearly always been taken care of for me. But now that I’m living outside of home it’s up to me to make sure I don’t go hungry. More than once I’ve skipped breakfast or lunch and regretted it because, as it turns out, I have terrible concentration when I don’t eat. So you can see, meals are not only feeding my body, they’re also feeding my degree!

When I make my own lunch it’s usually leftovers or a sandwich, occasionally my mum takes pity on me and sends me soup which I can reheat in one of the many microwaves dotted around campus. When I am unable (or too lazy) to bring my own lunch there’s a number of eateries around campus that cater to any sorts of taste.

In the centre of the uni there’s a food court with staples such as Subway and Boost. Above the food court there’s Pajenkas café which serves burgers and chips, and the Asian Bistro which has all manner of Asian food, as well as halal options. If I’m in the science part of campus and don’t want to go far the Little Pickle café has coffee and snacks.

If I’m scratching the bottom of the barrel then making the trip to the bohemian Food Co-op where meals are $5. And when I’m really short on cash there’s usually a barbeque going on some part of the campus. What’s quite fun about the latter option is you get to meet students from other degrees, and talk about whether you are studying Forestry, or are just at the Forestry barbeque for the food.

There are only a few of the places I know and there’s probably a lot more places that I don’t, but it’s not a bad start. Whether you find your own little foodie niche or prefer eating at whatever happens to be closest doesn’t matter. The main objective is that food helps your brain and your brain is there to learn, so eat up!

As always
