ANU congratulated its Questacon Science Circus scholars, who have celebrated the end of their year travelling the country putting on science shows.

As part of their Masters in Science Communication the twelve students put on 600 science shows across the country ranging from regional Victoria to Broome WA.

“You have been outstanding representatives of the University to people from all ages and all walks of life,” said Dr Erik Lithander, ANU Pro-Vice Chancellor (International and Outreach)

The students showed off the skills they had learnt during the year by engaging dinner guests with an interactive reflection on the year of adventures that had the guests clicking fingers, clapping and drumming on their tables.

Masters of Ceremony at the dinner, students Sarah Clarke and Andrew Barley kept things lively by slipping into character as an English policemen and Irish aviator that they had used to entertain primary schoolers.

They also illustrated their progress during the year with a demonstration known as the woomph bottle, comparing themselves to the small amount of lighter fluid, which, when placed out of its comfort zone in a 25 litre water bottle and warmed, becomes explosive.

The 2015 scholars have recently been selected for what will be the 30th year of program, making it one of the longest running outreach programs in the world.
