Did you know that malaria is a preventable and treatable disease, yet it continues to have a devastating impact on the health and livelihood of people around the world? In 2020, there were an estimated 241 million new cases of malaria and 627,000 malaria-related deaths in 85 countries. (World Health Organisation, 2022)

As the fight against malaria continues, our researchers are working on solutions toward malaria elimination. We invite you to join our webinar where our experts will share their experiences and reflections on efforts in malaria research at the ANU.

Our panel members for this webinar will each provide a snapshot of their research in this area and include:

• Dr Kinley Wangdi: Overview of malaria incidence/mortality/epidemiology.
• Associate Professor Brendan McMorran: What happens in the body during a malaria infection? What are the signs and symptoms and how does the immune system respond?
• Dr Adele Lehane: Medicines for malaria and drug resistance, and current status, and challenges.

The presentations are scheduled to run for ten minutes each and will be followed by an engaging Q&A session, where you will have the opportunity to interact with our academics directly on the topic.
