World-leading ANU scientists take up key advisory roles
Two exceptional scientists from The Australian National University (ANU) have been appointed to leading Australian science organisations.
ANU Professor Mahananda Dasgupta will join Professor Ruben Bolt and Professor Mark Hutchinson as new additions to the National Science and Technology Council. They will each take up a three-year term.
Professor Dasgupta is an international leader in accelerator-based nuclear fusion and fission. She is also the first woman to be tenured in the Research School of Physics at ANU.
Professor Dasgupta’s expertise in nuclear physics, including complex quantum interactions, will help the NSTC advise the Government on growing Australia’s research and industry capabilities.
Professor Dasgupta will commence her appointment on 18 February 2024.
“These appointments are also a step towards achieving greater diversity within the Council and support its mission to provide timely and tangible advice to government,” The Hon. Ed Husic, Minister for Industry and Science said.
