Seven ANU students have been awarded a prestigious Westpac Asian Exchange Scholarship for Semester 2, 2017.

The University has been awarded the most Westpac Scholarships out of any Australian University.

The recipients of the $12,500 grant offered through the Westpac Bicentennial Foundation are Hanif Patel studying a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Medical Science, Alina Rizvi studying Bachelor of International Relations and Bachelor of Laws (Honours), Patrick Hassall studying Bachelor of International Security Studies, Olivia Pursey studying a Bachelor of International Relations and Bachelor of Laws (Honours), Sebastian Summbersby-Mitchell studying a Bachelor of International Relation and Bachelor of Economics, Yunliang Wen studying a Bachelor of Economics and Bachelor of International Security Studies and Abi Rajkumar studying a Bachelor of Development Studies and Bachelor of Laws.

The scholarship will allow them to undertake internships, volunteering opportunities and language courses alongside their semester-long exchange program.

Ms Pursey who will spend a semester in Hong Kong hope to use the grant to help her volunteer at a NGO focused on Asian Development.

"Hong Kong's political situation is extremely interesting, and it's a great place to study Law," she said.

Ms Rajkumar and Ms Rizvi will both spend their semester in Singapore. Ms Rizvi will also use the grant to volunteer in India, from where her grandparents hail.

"I want to work with a women's rights organisation based in Delhi," said Ms Rizvi.

Ms Rajkumar is hoping to stay in Singapore with her scholarship, with the aim to look at "projects on the ground that allow me to research the preservation of cultural heritage in the region."

Finally, Mr. Patel will be traveling to Cambodia after his exchange semester in Hong Kong to work with a public health volunteering program.

"My long-term interests are in health security, and in what can be done to combat emerging diseases," he said.

"Anywhere in Asia is politically very interesting, especially as it will play an important part in Australia's future."

The students are studying a range of disciplines, including International Relations, Laws, Economics and Arts, and will be traveling to various distinguished universities in Asia to add an international flavour to their university experience.
