In September Dr Ben Corry, senior lecturer for the Research School of Biology, helped launch the Australian National University Science Leadership Award in this year’s inaugural NSW/ACT Young Achiever Awards. The Science Leadership Award recognises talented young scientists and students who are at the forefront of their fields, those who are hoping to create change for the future.

“Young researchers are the workforce and creative pool upon which nearly all of Australia’s scientific breakthroughs are based. But, so much of the science in this country takes place without us being aware of it. That is why we are so excited to help recognize the efforts of our young scientific achievers,” Ben said at the Launch.

Nominate a young scientist you know aged between 12 and 28 by the 4th December 2014. Nominating is easy – young people within the community are encouraged to nominate directly online at the awards australia website or phone, 1300 735 445 for more information.

Director of Science Education at the Australian National University, Prof Barbara van Leeuwen says,   “We're very pleased to be supporting the next generation of leaders with our Australian National University Science Leadership Award. At the ANU we are looking to the next generation of young scientists to inspire solutions to the most critical issues facing the world in the 21st century.”

Each category winner will receive $2,000 for their contribution to their chosen fields of endeavour.  The overall winner will be selected by the judging panel and will be presented with another $2,000.
Winners will be announced in Sydney at the Gala Dinner Presentation at the SMC Conference and Function Centre, on Saturday 21st March 2015.
