ANU Joint Colleges of Science staff have been awarded at the 2017 ANU Staff Excellence Awards.

Held annually, the awards recognise the outstanding contributions of individuals and teams of staff who work in a variety of roles that allow the University to continue operating as one of the world's best educational institutions.

The Clare Burton Award for Excellence in Equity and Diversity which recognises University staff making significant contributions to promoting equity and diversity in the workplace was awarded to Associate Professor Penelope King from the ANU Research School of Earth Sciences.

As the founder and inaugural chair of the Research School of Earth Sciences Equity and Diversity Committee and deputy chair of the CPMS committee, Associate Professor King has tirelessly and passionately led a process of real and positive change.

The Andrew Hopkins Award for Excellence in Health and Safety was awarded to Australian Phenomics Facility Staff from the ANU College of Health & Medicine.

The staff at the Australian Phenomics Facility have demonstrated an increasing commitment to the health and safety of their employees, resulting in fewer injuries and improved work processes over the past three years.

The list of recipients also includes those who have worked at ANU for 25 years and for 40 years.

There are 27 staff who are celebrating 25 years of service and one staff member who is celebrating 40 years," said Vice-Chancellor Professor Brian Schmidt.

"For each of you receiving these awards, we thank you for your remarkable contribution and commitment to the University over the years."

Vice-Chancellor Professor Brian Schmidt congratulated all recipients of the 2017 awards.

"Recognising the work of our staff is incredibly important and the University takes it very seriously - after all it is the staff who help make this place what it is," he said.

"Between now and next year's Excellence Awards, I encourage you to keep an eye out for staff in all of your areas who display dedication and commitment to their jobs, who step above and beyond their day-to-day roles to bring about positive change."
