Katherine Moon graduates with a PhD which investigated the oceanic dispersal of terrestrial ectoparasites associated with penguins.

After graduating from a Bachelor of Medical Science in 2010, she worked in environmental protection for the Commonwealth Government before returning to the ANU to complete her Honours in 2013.

Given the success of her project on the genetic connectivity of ticks (Ixodes spp.) parasitising little blue penguins (Eudyptula novaehollandiae and E. minor) in colonies across Australia and New Zealand, she decided to continue her research into the host-parasite system, beginning her PhD in 2014 as a joint project with Monash University.

Katherine's passion lies with evolutionary biology, and in the use of new techniques to solve old biological questions while informing effective environmental management.
