"I was always a bit of an all rounder – I never really had one thing I was good at – I enjoyed a whole lot of stuff," says Tess Pohlner, who is in her first year of Interdisciplinary Studies (Sustainability). Interdisciplinary Studies allows students to study subjects from across the University in order to get a holistic understanding of sustainability science.

Tess says this flexibility has allowed her to study a range of areas that she finds interesting. "This year I have done quite a broad bunch of courses. I did a couple of politics courses, one Asian studies course, micro and macro economics and of course, environment courses through the Fenner School. It’s been great to be able to study such a variety of courses over the year."

Tess has also discovered ANU provides a lot of options outside the academic world. "I live on campus at Bruce Hall and it’s great. I do a lot of sport and I am social representative for the College. I will get to organise all the social events which will be a lot of fun."

"I absolutely love living in the college – it is my kind of place to be," Tess concludes.
