Wear It Purple Day 2026 - Friday 28 August
Every year on the last Friday of August, Australians across schools, workplaces and communities put on their purple to mark Wear It Purple Day. It's a national day of visibility and support for LGBTQIA+ young people, and a reminder that everyone deserves to feel safe, valued and included - at school, at work, and everywhere in between.
The day began in 2010, founded by a group of young people responding to the bullying and exclusion so many LGBTQIA+ students were facing. Since then, it's grown into a nationwide movement, championing pride, diversity and the simple but powerful message that young LGBTQIA+ people are not alone.
How to get involved
You don't need to do anything elaborate - wearing something purple on the day is the easiest way to show your support. You might also:
- Share a purple profile photo or workplace shout-out on your socials
- Chat with colleagues, students or friends about why the day matters
- Keep an eye out for CoSM IDEA Committee or local IDEA Committee activities in the lead-up
The CoSM IDEA Committee encourages everyone across the College - staff, students, and visitors alike - to take part and help build a College culture where every person feels they belong.
Go purple. Stand together. 28 August 2026.
