Daniel Baker, Consultant at Aither – Economics and Policy consulting company

The week after I submitted my thesis I started at my current job, where I consult for government and private sector clients on projects relating to natural resource management, water resource management, agriculture, regional development and the environment.

Honours at the ANU was an excellent experience, which gave me more than a typical university undergraduate education. It was a comprehensive learning experience that built my professional independence but also improved my ability to work in a collegiate environment. I use the knowledge and skills I gained through my Honours degree every day in my current job. I have also been able to adapt the broader themes and conclusions of my thesis to many of the projects I have been involved in since joining Aither.

My advice to prospective students would be to involve themselves with the many extracurricular activities offered throughout the University and to take the time to engage with academics. Building strong academic networks early in your time at university can be beneficial in enabling a good start to your chosen career path.
