Evidence based medical and science policy is increasingly under pressure to bow to commercial pressures and political ideology. 

But surely not in Australia...?

Should academics respond by staying removed, and manning the ramparts of their ivory towers? Or should they join advocates and activists on the field of battle, at the cost of apparent impartiality? 

There may not be an answer, but it's a conversation we now need to have...
