ANU Solar Oration 2017 - The Australian Energy Transition

Date & time: 5–6.30pm 29 November 2017, AEST (Australian Eastern Standard Time)
Location: Copland Lecture Theatre, Building 25, Kingsley Street, Australian National University, ACT 2601
Speakers: Ms Audrey Zibelman, Professor Michael Cardew-Hall, Shane Rattenbury, and Professor Andrew Blakers

Australia is in the midst of a major energy transition, from fossil fuels to renewable energy. Ms Audrey Zibelman, CEO of the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO), will discuss the intersection of the rise of renewables, grid stability and emission reductions.

AEMO is tasked with delivering security and reliability in the National Electricity Market (NEM) and the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM). The very rapid rise of wind, solar photovoltaics, energy storage and distributed generation is rapidly changing the dynamics of the energy industry. Ms Zibelman will discuss the pivotal role that AEMO occupies in delivering energy security and reliability on both short and long time scales. She will discuss her experience in the use of distributed energy in New York state, and touch on the work AEMO is doing with the Australian Renewable Energy Agency. Finally, she will canvass a future where distributed energy resources play a larger role in addressing consumer demands.

Registration is essential for the Solar Oration.

The Solar Oration will follow the ANU Energy Update and will be in the same lecture theatre (Copland).
