Photosynthesis, the most important biological process on earth

Professor John Evans is head of the RSB Plant Sciences Division, and has been researching photosynthesis for more than 30 years. His outstanding contribution to science was recognised by election to the Australian Academy of Sciences in 2013.

Dr Ben Long is a plant scientist who works on cyanobacteria (blue-green algae), and is part of the Gates Foundation-funded Realizing Increased Photosynthesis Efficiency (RIPE) group, which aims to engineer plants that more efficiently turn the sun’s energy into food, to sustainably increase worldwide food productivity.

Other talks available from Prof Evans or Dr Long include

  • Photosynthesis, Light and Action
  • The story of plants and why we can’t live without them
  • Improving photosynthesis to help feed the world population by 2050.
