Honours year application

Honours is an elite and challenging program for top students. The Honours program may be undertaken in one year full-time or on a part-time basis.

Current ANU students in a four year direct entry Honours programs

  • Bachelor of Philosophy (Honours) - Science
  • Bachelor of Philosophy (Honours)/ Bachelor of Science (Honours)
  • Bachelor of Science (Advanced) (Honours)
  • Bachelor of Environment and Sustainability (Advanced) (Honours)
  • Bachelor of Psychology (Honours)

Step 1

Submit your application

Please complete the Science Honours Application form (PDF, 171KB) and submit directly to the College at Science Central (Peter Baume Building 42) or via email at science.enquiries@anu.edu.au.

Some disciplines require additional information from you (see Supplementary Forms section), please attach the relevant supplementary form to your application.

Receive an notification

Outcomes will be emailed to students shortly after results are released.

Step 1

Submit your application

Submit your application via the Apply button on Programs and Courses using the link below relevant to your current program. For external applicants, in most instances, this will be the Bachelor of Science (Honours).

Make sure you nominate the Honours discipline for which you are applying when completing the application form.

Some disciplines also require additional information from you (see Supplementary Forms section), please upload the relevant supplementary form to your application.

Current ANU students do not need to upload academic documents or pay the application fee; when submitting your application you will be prompted to input your student ID number, please include this information.

External applicants must upload academic documents when applying. When available, you will also need to provide a copy of your official academic transcript including final results, and proof of completion of your undergraduate degree. Please provide this information as soon as possible.

Step 2

Receive an offer

ANU will contact all successful and unsuccessful applicants by email. When you apply, please ensure you supply an active email address. Check your email regularly so you don't miss any correspondence.

Step 3

Accept your offer

If your application is successful, you will receive an offer. Once you receive an offer it is very important that you accept it to ensure your place at ANU is reserved. Please follow the instructions included in your offer letter to accept and pay your deposit (payment of deposit is applicable to international applicants only) prior to the acceptance deadline and the start date for Honours*. The sooner you accept your offer the quicker we can take steps to progress your application. You can accept a conditional offer prior to satisfying the conditions of said offer.

*Domestic applicants will be prompted to accept online using the Manual Acceptance Form. International applicants will be prompted to accept by completing the Acceptance Declaration and Payment Advice form.

Step 4

Check conditions of offer

Please read your offer letter carefully so you are aware of any conditions that you need to meet.

Current ANU students: the College will review your academic record after results are released to check if you have satisfied any conditions of your offer.

External applicants: you will need to upload a copy of your official academic transcript including final results and proof of completion of your undergraduate degree to the ANU Application Manager. Please provide this updated information as soon as it is available to you.

Step 5

Wait for enrolment instructions

Continuing ANU students will receive an email with enrolment instructions from the College containing information about adding courses specific to your honours discipline. Please remember you will need to make sure you have formally accepted your offer before you will be able to enrol.

For students new to the ANU, after you have accepted and met any remaining conditions of your offer, you will receive an email containing your student ID number and password. Soon after you will also receive a follow up email from the College with enrolment instructions and information about adding courses specific to your honours discipline.

Research project

For ideas on research projects and supervisors please visit the relevant research school pages. The projects listed on the research schools websites are not necessarily all open to new students. Please contact the relevant supervisor to check their availability and agree on a project.
