Four ANU science students are getting ready to leave the Canberra winter behind for a two-week study tour in Indonesia.

Alyssa Cormick, Rachael Baker, Alicia Cognian and Tobias Hopkinson are joining the ACICIS Public Health Study Tour to see how public health system works in Indonesia and understand the challenges it faces.

The students will travel to Jakarta and Yogyakarta for seminars and field visits to health care facilities, organisations and schools, and meet with leading health professionals, policy-makers and community health workers.

Alicia Cognian, studying a combined Bachelor of Science (Advanced) (Honours)/Diploma of Languages, says she hopes the study tour will feed her love of other cultures.

"I am particularly interested in the health challenges faced by different communities around the world," she says.

The study tour is supported by contributions from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s New Colombo Plan and an ANU Science Travel Grant.
