Student Enquiries

The College of Science Student Services Team is located on Level 2 of the Frank Fenner Building (No. 42) and provides information and administrative services to students and staff of the College of Science. The College Office is open from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday, for all student enquiries.

Another useful resource is the Student Enrolment and Administrative Procedures Guide. The Guide provides information about:

  • how and when to register and change enrolment
  • important administrative policies and procedures
  • administrative and financial deadlines and penalties for non-compliance
  • how and where to get advice

Once you are enrolled, check out your class or examination timetable here.

Help for Undergraduates

Sub Deans are available on a regular basis to talk to current and potential undergraduate students about their current and proposed courses. Appointment sessions with Sub Deans are available Monday through Friday. To make an appointment with a Sub Dean, please contact the College of Science Office on telephone (02) 6125 2809. Click here to see a listing of Sub Deans.

Please note: if you are unable to come to campus we can arrange a telephone appointment for you.

Examination Information

There are two examination periods each year, at the end of semester 1 and semester 2 (June and November). Some courses also include mid-semester examinations and the timing of this assessment will be outlined to you at the start of your course by your lecturer or course convenor. It is your responsibility to ensure that any travel you take does not prevent you from attending your exam. More information.

Special Consideration (Examinations/Assessment) Process

The Application for Special Consideration Form is lodged with the Science Department/School providing the examination for a course/assessment taken. Special Consideration is for students who believe their academic performance in a course during an examination, or during the session/semester, has been adversely affected by illness, misadventure, or other circumstances, beyond their control.

  • Lodge the ‘Application for Special Consideration (Examinations/Assessment)’ form with relevant Science Department/School.
  • The Application will be considered by the relevant lecturer and/or Head of the Department/School.

Special Examination Process

The Application for Special Examination Form is lodged at the College of Science Enquiries Desk, Frank Fenner Building 42, Level 2. A Special Examination application is for a student who failed to attend a term, semester, or annual examination. Special Examination Forms must be lodged with the College of Science no later than 72 hours (excluding the days the University is closed) after the end of the scheduled examination.

  • Lodge the ‘Application for Special Examination(s) Form at the College of Science Enquiries Desk, within 72 hours after the end of the scheduled examination.
  • The Application will be reviewed by a Sub Dean with regard to Rule 9 of the Examinations (The Faculties) Rules – www.anu.edu.au/cabs/rules/
  • The Application will be forwarded with comment from the Sub Dean to the relevant Department/School requesting advice from the appropriate course Lecturer/Head.
  • The College of Science Enquiries Desk will notify the student of the decision and request the student contact the relevant Department/School within 48 hours of notification to establish a date and time for sitting a special examination.

If an error message appears and you have checked that you meet the prerequisites and/or co-requisites, you should contact the school/department and request a permission code. Go back to ISIS and use the code to override the error message on ISIS. The Online Student IT Guide provides more details on ISIS.

Note: Permission Codes are obtained directly from the Department/School (not the College Office). If your permission code still does not work, you may need to fill out an Enrolment Variation Form, available from the College of Science Reception Area (Frank Fenner Building, Bldg 42). If you wish to take more than 24 units in a semester, you will need to fill out an Enrolment Variation Form and receive permission from the Sub Dean.
