Student Equity

The university is proud of its tradition for fairness just as much as it is proud of its reputation for intellectual rigour and innovation.

However, just as the university must remain constantly vigilant in ensuring it remains at the forefront of teaching and research excellence, so too it must remain contemporary in its equal opportunity administrative policies and administrative processes. To this end, the university has specific initiatives and policy priorities designed to address disadvantage and ensure we are abreast of world’s best practice in areas of equal opportunity for our people.

Policies, reports, programs, and services relating to student equity can be found here...

Class Representatives

University rules stipulate that each course nominate a student as Class Representative for School Committee meetings. School Committees, involving teaching staff and student representatives, make periodic decisions concerning course offerings in the School and other matters of interest to students.

The class representatives can also represent other students in the class if they have any problems with the course, the lecturers or tutors and do not wish to approach the Course Co-ordinator personally. This way, if you feel that there are any changes we can make to improve the course, we can modify things as we go, rather than finding out after the event.

Class representatives are also entrusted with overseeing the ANUSET evaluation forms at the end of the course.

ANU Health Service

The University Health Service offers primary health care to students of the ANU. We have both male and female doctors and a nurse available for health advice and assistance.

If you would like to see a doctor, we advise that you ring to make an appointment before you come to the Health Service. If you attend without an appointment and your matter is not urgent, you may be asked to make an appointment at a later time or date.

ANU Counselling Centre

The ANU offers a free and confidential counselling service to all current ANU students. Your counsellor will help you to:
  • get a better understanding of your problem
  • strengthen your resources for handling the problem
  • find an effective solution.
Counselling is generally short-term, and your counsellor will aim to help you resolve your problem in the shortest possible time.

ANU Student's Association

The Australian National University Students’ Association (ANUSA) is the representative body of undergraduate students on campus. If you are an undergraduate student at ANU, then you are an ANUSA member, and ANUSA is your student voice.

We consist of a number of elected students. We present student issues to the University Council, to Faculty Boards and on other official committees. We represent student issues outside the campus, organise social events and activism on campus, plus providing some student services which are not otherwise provided by the University.

If you ever have an issue which you want raised, or think that something about university life needs to be changed, or just want to talk through a problem, then come in and see us! ANUSA’s office is located in Building 17, above the Commonwealth Bank in Union Court.

Postgraduate and Research Student’s Association (PARSA)

The Postgraduate and Research Student’s Association (PARSA) represents every postgraduate student at ANU. All postgraduate and research students are members of PARSA automatically.

PARSA offers several services that support its members. We lobby for change to university governance through active participation in university committee and administrative procedures. We have a project officer who can give confidential one-on-one advice about a range of academic issues that might affect students' studies. We also provide access to a lawyer who offers free services to postgraduate students.

To find out more about PARSA, visit our website or get a copy of PARSA’s annual Survival Guide which is full of useful information that's relevant to postgraduate study. Alternatively, keep an eye open for PARSA’s frequent social events.

Parsa is governed by students for students. We're an advocacy body that gives postgraduates a voice on their own campus.
