Teaching Code of Practice

The Teaching Code of Practice sets out expectations for students and staff in learning and teaching at ANU.

As a result of their educational experiences at ANU students will:

Develop an understanding of the current state of a specific area of knowledge, as well as an awareness of the ever-changing and provisional nature of this knowledge (depth of knowledge).

Form broad conceptual frameworks within which disciplinary knowledge can be developed (breadth of knowledge).

Develop skills to communicate in oral and written form to disseminate information, critique argument and persuade (communication skills).

Learn to work with others and value diverse backgrounds, opinions and views as a resource for enhancing outcomes (team working skills).

Develop skills to enable research, analysis and solution of complex problems (problem solving skills).

Discover how knowledge and understanding evolves and is subject to challenge and revision (understanding of inquiry-based knowledge development).

Develop an informed and critical questioning of accepted theories and views (critical thinking).

Be prepared for whatever may lie beyond graduation: graduate school, professional school, or a professional position and for being a well-informed and contributing citizen (life long learning skills).
