The University offers up to 15 ANU Honours Year scholarships each year. In 2010 each scholarship will be worth $5,000.
Subject to the approval of the University Awards Committee an ANU Honours Year Scholarship may be held concurrently with other scholarships and awards. It is advisable that you contact Centrelink to establish if an ANU Honours Scholarship can be held without affecting your Youth Allowance or other benefit.
Requirements: You should be intending to enrol full-time at this University in the Honours Year of a program of study leading to the award of the degree of Bachelor with Honours OR in the final year of a program of study leading to the award of the degree of Bachelor with Honours where the honours component is an integral part of the final year.
It is essential that you contact the School where you are proposing to undertake Honours to establish that you have or will have the academic qualifications for entry into Honours and that the required resources will be available to you.

A number of scholarships of $6,000 will be available for a student who is enrolled in the Honours Year of a Bachelors degree, who is undertaking studies related to medical sciences and is supervised at the John Curtin School of Medical Research. A relocation allowance of up to $4,000 is available for scholarship holders recruited from outside the ACT region.
These scholarships were established by the University from funds endowed by Emeritus Professor Leonard Broom to support programs at the National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health to serve Indigenous Australians. One or more may be awarded each year.
The Scholarships are intended to enable Indigenous Australian students to undertake a program of study in an area related to NCEPH's research. Each scholarship will be up to the value of $5,000. There will be an additional allowance of up to $4,500 for reimbursement of travel and fieldwork expenses, if required.

National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health Honours Scholarships

The National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health (NCEPH) awards a number of scholarships each year known as an NCEPH Honours Scholarship. The scholarship program is conducted jointly by arrangement between the NCEPH and the College of Arts and Social Sciences, College of Business and Economics, the College of Medicine, Biology & Environment and the College of Physical Sciences. Each scholarship is worth $5,000. There is an additional relocation allowance of $4,500 for those successful applicants who have transferred their enrolment to this University for the Honours Year.
Requirements: The applicant must be studying full-time in a discipline relevant to the research undertaken at NCEPH and ideally will be supervised by a member of the academic staff at NCEPH. Some of the relevant fields are: environmental sciences, anthropology, sociology, economics, population studies and medical sciences. Indigenous Australian students are encouraged to apply.
Paul Bunyan Memorial Scholarship in Medical Sciences

The scholarship is named in memory of Paul William Bunyan and is funded by the interest from donations from his parents and support from the ANU Endowment Fund.
The scholarship has been established through the generous support of the ACT Musculoskeletal and Orthopaedic Research Foundation.
The scholarship will be offered for research in a field or discipline relevant to musculoskeletal or orthopaedic disease and/or trauma.
Eligible applicants must be:
(i) Enrolled or intending to enroll in the Honours year of a program leading to the award of a degree of Bachelor with Honours, at the Australian National University;
(ii) Enrolled in the Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) Program at the ANU Medical School

It is normal for recipients to undertake study on a full-time basis. However, in accordance with strict criteria, the scholarship may be awarded for part-time study. It is expected that the scholarship normally will be taken up by 31 August in the year for which it is awarded, although, subject to the approval of the prospective supervisor, Head of Department and Dean/Director, a later start date may be possible. An exciting opportunity is available in the area of pharmacogenomics at the John Curtin School of Medical Research. The goal of this line of work is to conduct translational research aimed at elucidating molecular and genomic mechanisms that underlie drug action. The key question to be addressed is: "How is variability in therapeutic outcomes determined by genetic substrate?" Genes control drug metabolism, drug transport, disease susceptibility, and drug targets. The aim of the pharmacogenomics PhD studentship is therefore to conduct studies that elucidate the effects of genomic variation on outcomes relevant to drug response, particularly in psychiatric disorders. The student will learn key relevant topics in this area such as understanding the biology of candidate genes and pathways, the relationship of disease genes to drug response genes, defining drug response phenotypes, and addressing ethical, technical, and data analyses issues related to the establishment and management of large drug response data sets.

An exciting opportunity is available in the area of psychoneuroimmunology at the John Curtin School of Medical Research. The goal of this line of work is to conduct translational research that elucidates how environmental and psychological factors affect key brain functions through immune and endocrine mediators. The key question to be addressed is: "What are the fundamental mechanisms underlying brain-body interactions?" Immune and endocrine mediators modulate the effects of the environment on key outcomes such as stress response, depression and obesity. The aim of the psychoneuroimmunology PhD studentship is to elucidate the specific mechanisms and pathways by which immune and endocrine molecules are regulated by the environment and then signal the brain and other organs to cause disease-related outcomes. The student will learn key relevant topics in this area such as understanding the interactions between the immune and central nervous systems and will learn methods and techniques relevant to immunology, neuroscience and to models of disease, such as obesity and depression.

American Association Of University Women (AAUW) International Fellowships

The project is based on the development and application of 2D-LC proteomic chromatography techniques using the pathogen Stagonospora nodorum. This is a unique opportunity to develop an expertise in cutting-edge proteomics techniques.

Re-entry scholarships for Graduate Research

The University offers each year a small number (usually only one) of Re-entry Scholarships for graduates who wish to resume academic studies after a break of at least three years since formal enrolment in a university program, the break normally being due to fulfillment of family obligations.
Eligible programs include PhD, Professional Doctorate by Research, MPhil. Maximum duration for PhD or Professional Doctorate three years with a possible six-month extension; for MPhil one year with a possible extension of up to a further twelve months.
