"I have passionately enjoyed all the chemistry and psychology courses that I have had so far and I am looking forward to my third year psychology courses."
Why did you choose to study Science, Medicine or Health at the ANU over any other institution?
ANU has consistently remained as one of the top Universities in the world, and as a result I wanted to continue my tertiary education here. Also, as I am initially from Sydney I have always wanted to experience the autonomic life by moving instate for my further studies.
What is the best feature of studying Science, Medine or Health at ANU?
I would say that the chemistry labs and the psychology rooms with human brains and Ainsworth's room and window have been fascinating during past two years of my study at ANU.
What have you learned about yourself while studying at the ANU College of Science?
I have learned to appreciate and praise myself for achieving this far. Furthermore, being at ANU has taught me that hard working would always give any individual a good outcome. I have also learnt that team work is rather crucial in real life and this has been elucidated through various group assignments and presentations.
How do you feel the ANU is preparing you for your future?
In every academic year, each course that you undertake is teaching you something new that would be rather helpful in life outside the university. Furthermore, it also provides you with other imbibed qualities such as time management skills, punctuality, friendship, critical thinking, hard working, good communication and interpersonal skills that would be rather crucial in life.
What is your favourite science, medicine or health class?
I have passionately enjoyed all the chemistry and psychology courses that I have had so far and I am looking forward to my third year psychology courses.
What is your favourite elective class?
I have had two favourite electives that have been thoroughly enjoyed. They include Individual Society in Asia and Self and Society. They were both fantastic due to the passionate lectures that had put together these courses.
Highlight of your science, medicine or health experience to date?In the two academic years that I have had so far, the orientation weeks have been rather enjoyable and most memorable as there were plenty of groups to join and a lot of people to meet. One of the things that I greatly enjoy is meeting new people and the orientation weeks have had provided me the opportunity to do just that. Moreover, SIGN mentors have also been a tremendous help in guiding us through our new experience at university and every mentor session has been a learning experience.
What do you enjoy about living in Canberra?
Most people think that Canberra is the most dormant state in Australia, but I quite enjoy living in Canberra even though my parents still reside in Sydney. Canberra has the most courteous and helpful individuals in comparison to other states. Since I had lived in Sydney for some time, moving to Canberra has shown me a transition pattern whereby you get to do things at your own pace. This in turn allows you to be well planned and prepared. In addition, Sydney is somewhat different as people are always ‘on-the-go-‘.
Why did you choose to study a science, medicine or health degree?
Unknowingly I had developed a passion for science (psychology, chemistry and biology) in secondary high school and since then, I have continued to live enjoying these courses. Chemistry was my favourite during high school whereby I had superfluously memorized the whole periodic table, atomic weight and the atomic number, but I had always enjoyed psychological concepts of life and development (especially child development in pre-operational state) as well. This in turn had allowed me to develop the enthusiasm to undertake a science degree rather than anything else.
Career plans?
Since I love to talk to people, I will be looking into counseling. I am currently applying for a small course with Life Line for telephone counseling and hopefully, this will get me somewhere after my graduation.
