Student Profile - Billy McConvell
Bachelor of Science, 2009
"The immediately apparent, very high standard of teaching, research, student support and 'extra-curricular' activities have made it easy for me to stay at ANU."

What degree are you studying?
Bachelor of Science.

What year of study are you in?
3rd

Where is your hometown?
Darwin

Why did you choose to study at ANU over any other institution?
The innovative alternate entry schemes were my 'in' to Uni. The immediately apparent, very high standard of teaching, research, student support and 'extra-curricular' activities have made it easy for me to stay at ANU.

Why did you choose to study a science, medicine or health degree?
A chance to contribute, while retaining the selfish pursuit of work I really want to do.

What is your favourite science, medicine or health class so far and why?
I always enjoy classes in synthetic chemistry theory - becoming versed in techniques which can be used to build molecules with medicinal or other interesting properties. The theory often involves a lot of thinking abstractly in three dimensions, and information is conveyed with pictures and diagrams rather than words - which appeals to my puzzle-solving streak.

What has the highlight of being at university been for you so far?
I'd have to say finding like minded people to converse, play sports and generally hang out with.

What surprised you most about classes at university?
How stimulating many of them are.

What do you want to do when you finish your degree?
At the moment I'm thinking of doing a Diploma of Education to bone up my teaching skills.

Describe a typical day for you at ANU.
In order of importance: sports, lunch, labs and lectures. Or maybe lunch should be first?
