What is your topic / field of interest?
Synthesis and chemical ecology of natural products and analogues from sexually deceptive Chiloglottis orchids.
What experience have you gained while studying at ANU?
Many skills ranging from the practical and analytical sides of chemistry to presentation and collaborative experiences with colleagues and peers, both local and international.
What have you learnt about yourself during your time here?
I have learnt a lot about where my strengths (and weaknesses!) lie when it comes to independent research and self-directed learning. I have developed more confidence regarding how to balance my work and hobbies.
What do you see yourself doing upon completion of the program?
I would consider an international post-doc for a few years, then probably return to Australia.
What has been the most enjoyable experience during your studies at ANU?
I have gained a lot from meeting many diverse people – students, academics and other support staff. Thee people combine to make an encouraging and interesting environment to work and study.
Why would you recommend this program to others?
Doing a PhD is not always easy (in fact, not often!), but is eye opening because of the diversity of people, with different interests. It is also incredibly rewarding to achieve personal targets and milestones.
