Plant Sciences at ANU

The Australian National University is internationally recognised for excellence in Plant Science teaching and research.

In a world of rapid climate change, plants play a critical role in regulating the scale and magnitude of global warming, and determining the impact on ecosystem biodiversity. Plants are also crucial to meeting the food demands of an increasing global population.

Understanding how current and future climates impact on the growth, survival and distribution of plants is, therefore, vital to:

  • predicting impacts of global change on plant performance and survival,
  • assessing evolutionary impacts of climate change on Australian biota,
  • maximising productivity of agricultural crops.

By working across a wide range of disciplines, ANU is ideally positioned to help address some of the most pressing issues of our time – how climate change will alter Australian ecosystems, and how we can continue to feed a growing population.
