The Astronomy of Aboriginal Australians

As part of the International Year of Astronomy Lecture Series presented by the Australian Institute of Physics and the Black Hole Society, CSIRO's Prof Ray Norris's talk will explore the wonderful mystical Aboriginal astronomical stories and traditions.

Space Science: ANU in world top ten

The Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics (RSAA) has again been named Australia’s leading space research institution by achieving a key top-ten world ranking.

National Science Week 2009


ANU was heavily involved in National Science Week again this year. It hosted a public lecture by visiting Cambridge University chemist, Dr Peter Wothers and much more including the Science Spectacular at the CSIRO Discovery Centre.


The Global Energy Challenge

World-energy demand is expected to increase by about 70% in the coming 20 years, while the production of petroleum is likely to peak in this period. The combination of rising demand and declining production of conventional oil raises the question: What is the plan?

In his presentation Professor Snieder will give examples of what one can do as a teacher, student, consumer, businessman and as a citizen to make progress towards a more sustainable energy system.
